Dissertation Topic and Research Interests
My research focuses on digital advertising and marketing, consumer psychology, and consumer behavior. I am interested in studying how brands or organizations can effectively communicate their ideas to the audience, and how audience members process advertising and marketing messages in the context of multimedia and digital communication. My dissertation examines the influence of user control on the effectiveness of digital advertising and communication. As communication has become more interactive, brands, media platforms and other organizations provide audience members greater opportunity to control and customize the information to which they are exposed. I am particularly interested in exploring the various media and communication factors that influence a person’s sense of control, and how control is related to the psychological processes and outcomes of media use, including attention and attitude to advertising messages.

Reasons for Joining AEJMC
I became an AEJMC member because AEJMC provides great opportunities and resources for me to develop my research ideas, get valuable feedback on my work, and network with scholars in this field. As a member I am able to attend conferences, present my work, and meet great researchers. These are all great opportunities for me to learn from others and get more involved in the advertising research community. I also love the AEJMC Job Hub a lot. It is a great platform to learn about the job market and have some interactions with potential employers.

Favorite AEJMC Memory
The 2019 conference in Toronto! It was my great honor to be awarded the top student paper in the ad division. I got very helpful feedbacks on my research and was able to interact with many scholars doing interesting research. I also had the chance to attend the Kappa Tau Alpha awards luncheon and had a great time with other researchers. Also, Toronto is a great place to visit, especially in summer!

Advice You'd Give Your Past Self When You Were About to Start Graduate School
I would advise myself to think more about emotion management, which I believe is an important ability to survive from challenges in graduate life. I think everyone about to start with graduate school should be prepared to encounter frustrated moments. Therefore it is important to learn about your own emotions and figure out ways to deal with them. This can make graduate life more effective.

Answer to Question from Previous Graduate Student Highlight
"Throughout their graduate career, what the most memorable moment and how did it impact you?"

The last day of my class in Spring 2020. It was the first time I taught the course virtually. Despite difficulties and inconvenience in transferring from offline to online, I finally made it! I felt very grateful when my students said thank you. This experience gives me a lot of confidence in teaching and pursuing my career goal.
